Wilderness boasts a staggering amount of activities that can be enjoyed by everyone from the adventure junkie to the chilled out hiker. We offer tours in the Garden Route from the Wild Farm Backpackers. We can also book all the adventure activities in Garden Route from our reception and adventure centre for you.

Here are some of the day trips and activities that you can enjoy in the area:

The Wild Farm Hiking Trail             Best off all its free!

This trail runs from the Wild Farm and meanders through the valley along the forest edge to an amazing view point where you can sit and relax, read a book and just chill. Choose your route back or stroll a bit further to where you’ll find another view point in the north. Here you will get to see the valleys of Wilderness. Take your time before you head back and enjoy an awesome sunset on the restaurant and bar deck with a drink in your hand!  

Mountain Bike Hire


We have mountain bikes that you can hire from us! There are various routes to take from the Wild Farm in Wilderness from easy to strenuous and half day to full day.

R30 for half day and R50 for the day!

 

Tandem Paragliding with Cloudbase Paragliding

Let us book your jump with your tandem master off the edge of the Map of Africa and experience the thrill of flying like a bird in the sky. Your flight will last for an awesome twenty minutes in the sky and will leave you wanting more. Wilderness is one of the most scenic places on the Garden Route to do this activity from, ask anyone that has done it before. Cloudbase has been in the business for years and have the most experience in tandem flights around in Wilderness and the Garden Route area.

The Woodville Big Tree Tour

Climb into our groovy backpacker’s bus and go on an awesome ride through the rural areas of Wilderness. First stop is the Langvlei Bird hide where we will be watching some of the local water birds and listen to the sounds of the calm waters and maybe hear a Fish Eagle call in the distance. After that we are off to the Woodville Big Tree which is a gigantic Old Outeniqua Yellowwood Tree + - 800 years old. Here we do an awesome short hike through the forest where we’ll show you some more amazing trees and ferns of the area and if we’re lucky a Knysna Turaco or two.

Get back on the bus and cruise through a quaint old pass and bridge on the old George-Knysna road before we stop at our final destination for the day, the Map of Africa. Soak up the view of the landscape that creates an imaginary map of Africa with the Majestic Cradock peak in the background of the Outeniqua Mountains. If you’re on the sunset tour you’re lucky enough to enjoy a sunset drink for free before we head back to the Wild Farm.

Map of Africa Mountain Bike Trail

Take the road north from the Wild Farm to Whites road and see the glorious hills of Wilderness and the Outeniqua Mountains. Carry on and turn left down to the beautiful Map of Africa where the hills and rivers play together to make an imaginary map of our continent Africa! Don’t forget to take a stroll to the paragliding jumping site and view Wilderness stretch of coastline sure to blow your breath away!

This is an easy to medium ride perfect for the early morning or late afternoon mission! + - 2hours.

Old George Knysna Road Bike Trail

Again take the road north to Whites Road but this time make sure you've got sunscreen and water for it’s a full day ride! Yehaa' pull in at Map of Africa on the way and take some pictures. Carry on to the Old George-Knysna road where you cross a beautiful old pass and bridge and climb the hill to the top destined to make you walk. Hehe.

When reaching the top if you’re tired turn right to Wilderness or carry on left to the Woodville Big Tree if you have some energy to spare. Then turn your way home and stop at the view point coming down the hill from Hoekwil. Enjoy a long downhill ride to the bottom where you will meander along the hills on a flat road back to Wilderness before you head back to Wild Farm on Whites Road! 3 - 5 hours depending on route and pace you take!

Surfing and Surf Board Hire

We have a range of surf boards for hire from beginner’s boards to more experienced riding boards. Take a board and go play on the Wilderness beach for the day with your friends. The next day take your skills to Victoria bay 15 min drive away along the coast. Here you’ll find one of South Africa's best point breaks and one of the Garden Route's favorite beaches, enjoy this amazing little bay for the day.

The Half Collared Kingfisher Trail in The Wilderness National Park

The trail runs along the Touw River's banks to the top where you’ll discover some waterfalls and rock pools to swim in and have a picnic. Along the way you can expect to see grand old trees of the area like the Outeniqua Yellow Wood Tree and many varieties of birds including the Knysna Turaco. If you are lucky you can spot some smaller mammal species like the Bushbuck. The trail is about 7km long return and takes about 3 hours to complete depending on how long you stay at the picnic area and rock pools. There is an entrance fee to be paid to the Wilderness National Park.

Canoeing in the Wilderness National Park with Eden Adventures

We will book your canoe with them and let you glide along the Touw River on a peaceful and fun filled adventure for everyone. Look out for the many types of water birds that occur in the Wilderness National park as well as some graceful forest birds along the forest edge. Canoe to the end of the river where you will embark on the Half Collared Kingfisher trail that will lead you the rock pools and waterfall area where you can have a picnic and a swim. Meander back through the forest trail and relax for the last part of the canoeing.

 R200 for a double canoe plus park entry of R80 person!

Horse-riding with Perdepoort Horse Trails

Perdepoort Horse Trails is located next to the Outeniqua Mountains in Wilderness Heights. The horse trails run through the indigenous forest on the farm and traverses small rivers and creeks. All levels of riders are welcome as there are different types of routes available form beginners to the more experienced. The trails normally run for 2 to 2 and a half hours depending on the variables.
